CRICKET.
Position of Senior Matches. SODDEK GROUNDS LIKELY. Tt. looks as if the pitches and outfields for to-morrow’s cricket will be as sodden and slow as they were last Saturday, when the first competition games were commenced. At Haglev No. 1 ground. West Christchurch. who batted all last Saturday afternoon, have 315 for only 8 wickets, so their opponents, St Albans, have the hardest part to do. Still. St Albans have some excellent batsmen, and if the wicket gives the West Christchurch bowlers no more help than it gave the St Albans trundlers, the task will not be impossible. Sydenham, with one wicket down for 44. are in a useful position to overtake the moderate Riccarton total of 124. in the game at Sydenham Park.
East Christchurch are also in a sound position, having one down for 25. and only 11.0 necessary to catch the Old Boys’ total. This game is at the Haglev No. 2 ground. Old Collegians have four down for 201 against Lancaster Park, at Rugby Park, and will need to make runs quickly to get enough to give them a chance to win.
