OLD SETTLER DEAD.

Mr William Shipley, of Greendale. An old resident of Greendale, Mr William Shipley, passed away this morning. Mr Shipley was born in Nafferton, Yorkshire, in 1860, and came to New Zealand with his parents, Mr and Mrs Burton Shipley, in 1863. Hi*? parents settled in Greendale about fifty-five years ago, and he resided there for the whole of that period except for a space of seven years when he lived in Christchurch. Mr Shipley had extensive farming experience. In addition to his Greendale property he at one time owned Glenlee Station, Marlborough, and also New Park, Eiffelton, Ashburton, which property was acquired by the Government for returned soldier settlements. He was for many years a member of the Greendale Baptist Church, and was for a term president of the Canterbury Auxiliary of the Baptist Union of New Zealand. During the war Mr Shipley gave active assistance to the Y.M.O.A. and undertook canvasses for funds in both North and South Canterbury for the association’s war work. He was also a strong supporter of the New Zealand Alliance. Tn 1888 Mr Shipley married Miss Edith Adams, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs T. W. Adams He leaves a family of three daughters and two sons. Mesdames R. Quinn, (Eiffelton). A. TI. Partridge, Miss Shiplev (Greendale), and Messrs A B Shipley (Timaru) and N. W. Shipley (Greendale). Mr Shipley possessed a genial nature which made for him manv friends who will mourn his death. The funeral will leave his home, “ Pinehurst,” Greendale. on Monday at 2.30 p.m., for the Greendale cemetery.
