Educational Courses for Country Girls.
A special meeting of the provincial executive and branch presidents of the Women’s Division of the Farmers* Union was held in the lounge of the Y.M.C.A. building on Wednesday morning. Mrs FI. A. Nutt presided. The secretary was instructed to write a letter to Mrs J. D. Hall, advisory member, expressing sympathy with her in her illness. Regret was also voiced that Mrs Waters, of Wellington, who has done good work for the Housekeepers’ Auxiliary, should have had to undergo an operation in the Christchurch Hospital. Arrangements were made for a display of women members’ handwork at the forthcoming Winter Show. Each branch specified articles for display. A timetable was drawn up allotting days for branch members to be in attendance. Mrs H. A. Nutt spoke of the interesting course at present being taken by the young members of the Farmers’ Union and suggested and outlined a scheme for junior members of the Women’s Division. It was decided to i hold a country girls* educational course in the third or fourth week of September, and a committee of four, viz., Mesdames H. A. Nutt. C. M’lntosh. J. D. Hall and H. G. Denham, with power to add, were appointed to carry the scheme into effect Ainberley Branch. The monthly meeting of the Amberley branch of the W.D.F.U. was held on Tuesday in the Parish Hall. Mrs G. S. Roberts (president) presided over a good attendance of members. It was decided to send £5 as a contribution to the community chest in Wellington. After the business was concluded Mrs Roberts gave an address on details of happenings at the recent conference in Wellington. which was opened by her Excellency, Lady Bledisloe. A competition for a baby’s vest was won by Mrs Retallick 1, Mrs H. Parsons 2, Mrs South 3. The small garments were voted to bo sent to the Karitane Baby Hospital. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs A. I. Croft and Mrs Retallick.
