FISHING INDUSTRY HELPED.
(Special to the “ Star.’*) DUNEDIN, July 20. The new Melbourne steamer Waitaki is expected to render valuable . assistance to the fishing industry, because she has insulated space available for the transport of fish. Hitherto the difficulty in obtaining such space has hampered the export of fish to Melbourne, where a market exists for our surplus supply. At present the local market is taking what fish is offering and at a price above export rates. Therefore export buyers are not operating too freely. An export buyer informed a reporter that the insulated space now available with a three-weeklv service is likely to have a marked effect at the season when fish is more plentiful than at present.
