DIFFICULT YEAR.

Citizens’ Association’s Review.

A determination to make every effort to regain control of the City Council and the Tramway Board at the next elections was expressed by the chairman of the General Committee of t.he Christchurch Citizens’ Association (Mr W. S. Mac Gibbon) at the annual meeting last

evening. The president. (Mr H. D. Acland) was in the chair and there was a good attendance.

The annual report reviewed the Tramway Board election in November, 1933. and expressed regret that the board bad passed into control of the Labour Party. Referring to finance the report stated that despite the fact that the income in the past year was £6O greater than in the previous year, it fell far short of requirements, and it was not over-stating the position to say that the association had been hampered through lack of finance. In moving tne adoption of the report Mr Mac Gibbon said that the past year had been one of the most difficult that the association had experienced for a long time. The report was adopted without further discussion. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr H. D. Acland; vice-presidents, the Hon W. Hayward. M.L.C., and Messrs Norton Francis, J. H. Rhodes, H. J. Otley, G. T. Booth, A. F. Carey, A. W. Beaven, W. J. Sim, H. Holland, M.P.. A. M’Kellar, W. IT. Clark and C. C,. M’Kellar.: chairman of committee, Mr W. S. Mac Gibbon; honorary treasurer, Mr J. O. Jameson; General Committee, Messrs J. Mawson Stewart, A. E. Bar tram, J. W. Beanland, W. R. Carey. W. H. Dorm, W. P. Glue. J. Murphy, E. 11. S. Hamilton. A. .S. Tayfor, A. J. Coveney, E. Vincent Smith. W. S. Hughes, G. H. Holder, F. J. Prouting and J. A. Poulton; representative of suburban committees: Shirley, Messrs E. G. Hewitt and S. W. Richardson; St Albans, Messrs F. J. Prouting and W. Thomson; St Albans West, Messrs H. V. Free and J. D. Godfrey. Women’s Branch. Miss M. Trent said that at the annual meeting of the Women's Branch, the following resolution had been passed: “ That it be a recommendation to the annual meeting of the association that the Women’s Branch and the men’s association amalgamate, and the women’s general committee continue in office as hitherto.” The recommendation was adopted.
