On account of the unsettled weather during the past few weeks it has not yet been possible to make a beginning with the experiments that are to be conducted by the Canterbury Greenkeepers’ Association with a view to determining the effect on lawns of different classes of manures. The experiments are to be carried out at the Christ’s College cricket ground, where the original grass will be treated and used lor playing cricket while the manures are taking effect. The ground has already been scarified and cleaned in readiness for the first application of manure
. A policy of municipal economies will be advocated by the Citizens’ Association at the elections to be held in May next, according to a statement made at’ the annual meeting of the association last evening by Mr W. S. AlacGibbon, chairman of the General Committee. He said that the association would try to reduce the rates so as to help the average ratepayer to live within his means. The reduction of the rates would be made a plank of the association’s platform and as a result of the election it would be possible to reduce the rates.
