Motorists Want Restoration of £500,000. Per Press Association. PALMERSTON NORTH, July 20. The opinion that motorists had a good prospect of having reinstated to the Mai nllighways Funds the whole or a large portion of the £500,000 appropriated from motor taxation for the purposes of the Consolidated Fund was expressed by the president, Mr W. O’Callaghan, of Hawera, at a meeting of the executive of the North Island Motor Union.
The executive discussed the possibility of tax reduction in addition to the restoration of half a million for roading purposes, and carried a resolution that the secretary should be instructed to press to the limit for a reduction of taxation.
The president reminded members that there would be an election next year and that, therefore, there should be some prospect of taxation reduction after March 31 next.
