RESEARCH FUNDS NEEDED

Conference of Primary Producers. A conference representing primary producers’ interests yesterday affirmed the need for research into farming problems and particularly into stock diseases. Representatives were present from the North 'Canterbury Eranch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, the Canterbury Sheep Owners’ Union, and the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association. It was reported afterwards that the conference had decided that funds for research were urgently needed, and that a conference of representatives of all the primary producers of the Dominion should be called to be held in Wellington when the Meat Producers’ Board holds its annual meeting at the end of August. The opinion was expressed that any effort to raise money should be Dominion wide. It was decided to ask the Farmers’ Union to call a meeting of representatives of the various branches of primary production, to be held at Wellington.
