Objection to the tariff proposals as they affect the gas industry of New Zealand were voiced by a large deputation, representing workers as well as the companies, which waited upon Mr Coates to-day. It was pointed out that the revised tariff provided for the abolition of the 20 per cent duty on electric cooking and heating appliances, while no provision had been made for gas stoves, which were subject to 25 per cent duty. The deputation also protested against the continued importation of dutyfree fuel oil. and a duty of 10 per cent which had f fceen imposed for the first time on gas meters. Mr Coates said that he would go carefully into the recommendations.
