RICCARTON AVENUE .

Completion Unlikely Until the Spring. The reconstruction of Riccarton Avenue, from the hospital to Deans Avenue, has been practically completed so far as the formation work is concerned. The metalling has been finished, as have the side channels and the grading of the footpaths, which entailed the removal of a lot of spoil. The southern footpath has been screened, but some work still remains to be done on the northern footpath, where a fence has to be shifted. It will be some time yet—probably late in the spring—before the tar-seal-ing of the road is undertaken. The road must be given time thoroughly to settle down, and during that time a close watch will be kept on it for the development of pot-holes or other de- j fects. To a large extent the comple- ! tion of the work will depend upon the | weather. Good weather is essential for successful tar sealing, and it is also j desirable that . the road should have dried out before this is undertaken. There is no possibility of the work be- • ing done in time for Grand National Week. * Work on the Tramway Board’s section of the road, which so far has not been touched, will net be undertaken till the remainder of the road has been completed. The tram tracks will then [ be brought into conformity with the t remainder of the road.
