(Received JuJv 19, 2 p.m.) LONDON, July 18 Joe Kirkwood, who stood third with 73 in the first round of the Irish Open Golf Championship at Portmamock. was the victim of an unfortunate incident when playing in the second round. Kirkwood' drove into the rough and alleges that in the search for the ball a steward accidentally trod on it. Kirkwood play ed the ball out. but say-s that the same steward, in seeking the ball, again stood on it. almost bury-ing it. The hole cost Kirkwood seven, and after that he play-ed badly-, taking 80 for the round. The “ Daily Mail ’’ say-s that the steward denies that he twice trod on the ball, as Kirkwood said to him: “ There is no need for you to look for the ball: the caddie will do that.** The official then disappeared.
