Kirkwood' drove into the rough and alleges that in the search for the ball a steward accidentally trod on it. Kirkwood play ed the ball out. but say-s that the same steward, in seeking the ball, again stood on it. almost bury-ing it. The hole cost Kirkwood seven, and after that he play-ed badly-, taking 80 for the round. The “ Daily Mail ’’ say-s that the steward denies that he twice trod on the ball, as Kirkwood said to him: “ There is no need for you to look for the ball: the caddie will do that.** The official then disappeared.
