Training for Athletes,.
A scheme to improve the already high standard of athletics in Canterbury was launched in the Xing Edward barracks last evening, when about fifty track and field athletes and cross-country runners indulged in indoor training. The time was spent in prysical exercises under the leadership of Dr W. Bryden, and later in funs round the barracks and in receiving instruction in various branches of athletics. The scheme was established by a committee of the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Centre under the chairmanship of Mr J. A. Gasson. Mr H. A. Kirby was superintendent last evening, and Mr L. G. Willis also assisted the control of the athletes. Coaches were:—Jumps, Messrs G. M. Tiffen and L. E. Smith; pole vault, Messrs W. J. Batstone and L. E. Smith; putting the Shot. Mr 11. M. S. Dawson ; hurdling. Mr A. T. Anderson; Starting, Mr J. A. GassOn; and walking, Mr F. W. Dukes.
