RETURNED SOLDIERS.

Association Receives Gift of Cattle.

The executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association met last evening, the Rev F. T. Read presiding. There were also present: Messrs T. L. Drummond, A. L. Emerson, B. O. Priddis. W. 11. Darby, A. W. Mewton, C. Miln, C. Chisnall, J. A. East. E. Orchard, J. S. Chisholm, W. E. Leadley and E. F. Willcox. Mr. 11. Dampier-Crossley wrote notifying that a donation of a truck of cattle had been made by the returned soldiers and residents of the Rotherham district to the R.S.A. The National War Funds Council notified that the deputation from the association regarding the cottage homes scheme would be received on July 18. The Minister of Public Works notified that the request of the association regarding the erection of the Lees Valley bridges had been discussed by the Main Highways Board. It had been decided that, provided the Oxford and Ashlij’ County Councils would find £2OO between them, the Ashley bridge would bo erected. It "would be capable of taking motor lorry traffic and would cost about £ISOO. As yet, no decision had been come to regarding the Whistler bridge.
