CAR ROLLED OVER.

Three People Hurt in Accident, A gust of wind is said to have been the cause of a motor collision on the main road at Himatangi on Sunday morning, as the result of which three people were taken to the Palmerston North Hospital. The victims of the accident are Miss Mabel Carston, who suffered severe injuries and shock and is in a serious condition; William Dewis, aged ten, who has a fractured leg; and Mr Carston, who suffered general abrasions and shock, but is in a satisfactory condition. According to the “ Manawatu Daily Times,” a car, driven by the Rev P. Leonard, a Maori minister, of Marton, who was accompanied by Mr W. Larkin, had pulled up well over to the left-hand side of the road, opposite the meeting house at Ilimatangi, where the minister was to conduct a service, when another and lighter car driven by Miss Carston, of Feilding, in passing the stationary car, struck it on the hub of the right-hand wheel. The shock caused the driver of the passing cgr to lose control of the vehicle, which left the road and shot across the railway line, where it came to a stop after rolling over several times. Both cars were headed in the direction of Foxton. The car was badly smashed. There was a strong westerly wind blowing across the road at the time and it is believed that an exceptionally strong gust was responsible for the smaller car swerving into the larger one, the occupants of which were in no way injured.
