NOT FAVOURED.

Provincial Boards for Fruit Export. CANTERBURY CONFERENCE. A proposal that the Fruit Control Act should be amended to provide for the setting up of export boards in the various provinces was not viewed with favour at a conference of Canterbury’ fruitgrowers in Christchurch to-day’. The meeting considered remits to the Export Conference to be held in Wellington on August 1 under the auspices of the Netv Zealand Fruit Export Control Board. Mr H. E. Stephens, of Nelson, chairman of the Fruit Export Control Board, presided over a good attendance. The remit, stated the chairman, would result in provinces each scrambling for shipping and possibly working against one another. Messrs J. W. M’Leod and E. A. Stead were appointed Canterbury delegates to the conference to be held in Wellington. On the motion of Mr M'Leod it was decided unanimously’ that the method of individual pack and separate account sales, which was adopted last season, should be continued next season.
