Power Board Revenue. (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, July 16. The Ashburton Power Board met today. Present: Messrs E. F. Nicoll (chairman), W. Bryant, R. J. Mulligan, H. Morris, H. C. Barton, J. Lambie, W. G. Gallagher, H. J. Crothers, W. H. Rundle, J. Carr, \V. H. Woods and J. W. M. Dart. The financial statement showed that the revenue for the month amounted to £4239, an increase of £54 compared with the same month last year. There was an increase in the domestic revenue of £6l and a decrease in power of £43. The engineer-secretary reported that the work of replacing broken poles had been practically completed. Replacements were made as follows:—Seafield and Methven 12 poles each, Lauriston 11, Winchmore 8, Seaview, Hinds and Mitcham 5 each, Ashburton 4, Rakaia and Back Track 3 each, Doric, Dromore, Highbank, Chertsey, Pendarves and Tinwald 1 each; total 74 poles. A northerly storm on June 27 brought down sixteen poles in the following areas:— Winchmore 4, Hinds 2, Mitcham, Cairnbrae, Pendarves. Chertsey, Tinwald, Ashburton, Lauriston, Wakanui, Three Springs and Coldstream 1 each. A shipment of 104 poles arrived on June 2S. The running engineer reported that 624,000 units had been supplied from Lake Coleridge and 2450 by the diesel plant, which had been in operation for over twenty-four hours during the month. The inspector reported that twelve consumers had been connected up during the month and fifty-four radio sets had been installed. In reply to a letter from the board expressing disapproval of what it considered special contracts for power supplied being made with City Councils the Minister of Public Works (the Hon J. Bitchener) wrote stating that the question would receive every consideration when any contracts with city authorities were being negotiated.
