A NEW PARTY.

Wellington Rumours Link Name of Legion. AN ELECTION FORECAST. (Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, July 17. Rumours are circulating here about a new alignment m political parties in which the New Zealand Legion or, at all events, some dissatisfied members of the New Zealand Legion, may take part. The suggestion is that a conference should be held for the purpose of bringing into existence a party Liberal in principle, which will offer a sufficient challenge at the general election to the existing parties to secure, if possible, the balance of power. An invitation to a conference has been signed by Dr Campbell Begg, Messrs E. E. Hammond. W. Appleton and L. Nelson, and a suggestion is that a leader should be selected for a party that will be a focussing point for the political elements that are dissatisfied with the Coalition or Labour.

Whether the Legion will go out of existence is doubtful, but many of its members may associate themselves with the new movement.

Mr P. D. ITall. the secretary of the Legion in Christchurch, will not attend the conference.
