Sequel to Collision at Lyttelton. Leonard Leggott. a labourer, residing in Wyndham Street, Papanui, was charged in the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court this morning before Mr 11. A. Young, S.M., with negligently driving a motor-cycle and sidecar along Park Terrace, Lyttelton. Sergeant D. The Magistrate said that his present license, if he held one, would be suspended until May 31, 1935, and he would be debarred from obtaining a license for twelve months thereafter. Frederick Forman gave evidence that about 1030 on February 10 he was driving a car in Park Terrace, towards Corsair Bay. Witness was driving steadily on his correct side, when he saw a motor-cycle approaching on the side of the read and at a high speed. Witness pulled further in to the left-hand kerb, but the motorcycle struck the car with great force. The defendant, who was driving the motor-cycle, was thrown clear over the handlebars, and was later taken to hospital. Both the motor-cycle and the car were extensively damaged. Constable C. Jackways read a statement made by the defendant in the hospital, in which he denied that he was driving at an excessive speed. The Magistrate said that he would take into consideration the fact that the defendant had suffered grave injuries and considerable monetary loss as a result of the accident.
