Double-Deck Buses.
'J'HE COMMISSIONER for Road Transport for New South Wales, Mr Maddocks, has announced that his department has ordered 14 new double-deck omnibus chassis, in addition to the two chassis ordered some time ago. They will cost approximately £23,000. The bodies will be built in Sydney. It is estimated that the total cost of placing them on the road will be about £37,000. The buses will be placed in service at an early date. Four will have compression ignition engines and 12 petrol engines. Mr Maddocks said that quotations received for the chassis had compared favourably with London prices. He added that by June 30 approximately £25,000 would have been written off the value of the existing buses to cover depreciation, and this amount would account for more than two-thirds of the cost of the new vehicles.
