WIRELESS.
Notes and News From Far and Near. (BY “AERIAL.’') Radio men the world over will regret to hear that Marconi's historic station at Poldhu is to be closed. This station has been on the air since 1900, and was one of the stations concerned in the first trans-Atlantic broadcast, when three “ dots ” were transmitted across the Atlantic Ocean. The station has been more or less in the nature of a radio laboratory since 1923. Rial- lamps that burn out after short periods of use should be replaced with lamps of slightly higher voltage than the original. At the present moment many Australian stations are coming in with volume and clarity equal to that of big New Zealand stations. As a matter of fact, during the past few nights keen listeners have not minded the cold, for the very simple reason- that they are getting more than their money’s worth of loud, clear reception undisturbed toy static. The crooner has been aptly described as a singer with a fur-lined throat. Rear-Admiral Byrd has been awarded a medal for distinguished contributions to radio. The particular medal is held by five other people, namely Colonel Lindbergh, Sir John Reith, Leopold Stokowski, Amelia Earhart and Noni Martini. /
