Improvements Planned at Rawhiti. A special meeting of the New Brighton Municipal Golf Links Advisory Board was held yesterday afternoon to receive a report on the extension of the links which had been prepared, by request, by Air AI. J. Barnett (superintendent of reserves). Air E. A. AI. Leaver was in the chair and there were also present: Alessrs M. E. Lyons, J. S. Barnett, T. H. Butterfield (representing the Christchurch City Council), R. E. Holloway, A. E. Lawry (New Brighton Borough Council), AI. J. Barnett (associate member) and H. Throp (associate member representing the Rawhiti Golf Club). The meeting unanimously decided to adopt the recommendations contained in the report, provided the Unemployment Board would allow them to employ one hundred men under the No. *5 scheme. The chairman and the secretary (Air C. T. Aliddleton) were deputed to arrange this with the Unemployment Board. Assuming that the majority of the work could be carried out under the No. 5 scheme, the estimated cost would be in the vicinity of £237, made up ;.s follows: Ploughing, scooping, etc., £3O; cost of soil and turf, including cartage. £172: manure, etc., £10; grass seed and sundries £25. The suggested alterations include the extension of the No. 1 fairway -<» r 132yds northwards, making 352yds instead of 220yds; the No. 2 fairway to extend in a southerly direction for approximately 4 00yds; No. 3 tee to be placed east of the new No. 2 green, the fairway to extend northwards for approximately 44 oyds towards the present No. 2 green; Nos. 5 and 11 would also be increased, and it is proposed to abandon the present No. 10 and extend the No. 9 towards Park Road. giving a fairway approximately 390yds long. The proposals would mean two complete new fairways, five new greens and five present fairways to be extended, and would provide about another 1000yds to the links.
