OBITUARY.

Rev. G. D. Thornton

• (Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, June 14

The death occurred yesterday of the Rev Guy Dynevor Thornton, of Fowlds Avenue, Sandringham, formerly chaplain to the Main Body of the* New Zealand Expeditionary Forces. Mr Thornton, who was sixty-one years of age, was a son of a former head master of Te Aute College, Hawke’s Bay. As a young man he joined the Baptist Church and entered its ministry. After a period in Auckland and Christchurch he went to Ohakune, which was then in its pioneering stage. Within a week of the declaration of war Mr Thornton offered his services as chaplain. He was appointed to the Auckland Mounted Rifles, and left with the Main Body His health broke down under the strain of work among the troops ; n Cairo, and he made two voyages to New Zealand in charge of returning drafts.
