FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY

Celebrates,

About 150 guests attended the first birthday of the Styx-Harewood branch of the Women’s Division of the Mariners’ Union. Mrs It. Jones. president, welcomed the guests. Greetings were received from the Oxford. Belfast and Marshland branches. Mrs D. Sisson, on behalf of the branch, presented Mrs Jones, the president, and Mrs J. Dixon, secretary, with bouquets. Mrs H. Nutt, president of the North Canterbury Provincial Executive, congratulated the branch on the wonderful display ot work which bad been done by the members. She wished the' branch success in the coming year. Mrs J. Dryden Hall and Mrs Colin M’lntosh also congratulated the branch. On behalf of the branch. Mrs Hall presented a silver spoon to Mrs G. Moore’s baby girl, the first baby of the branch. Mrs H. G. Denham explained the aims of the Women’s Division. The Misses Falkeld gave a pianoforte duet and two vocal duets, and Miss Black gave a vocal solo. A sketch was given by Mrs M. M’Eeod and Mrs H. Wyatt. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the members. The birthday cake was made by Mrs D. Sisson and decorated by Mrs W. Webb. A cooking competition, judged by Mrs E. B. Jordan, resulted as follows: Scones—Mrs Hubert 1, Mrs W. Dow 2. Pikelets—Mrs E. Halstead 1, Mrs J. M’Jarrow 2. Shortbread —Mrs W. Dow 1, Mrs Hubert 2. Sponge—Miss Brown
