News in Brief
Quality cf Dominion Butter. A tribute to the quality of New Zealand butter is contained in a letter received by an Auckland resident from his sister in Kent, England. The writer states that she has used Dominion butter exclusively for several years, and has found it of perfectly even quality and excellent flavour. A friend who also uses New Zealand butter is in the habit of buying three months’ supply for a large family at a time, and has never had a complaint to make. 55 55 Radio “Joy-riders.” Not the least of the trials of radio salesmen are the activities of ” joy-riders ” persons who obtain sets for days and sometimes weeks without any intention of buying one—according to a statement by a member of the trade, says the “ New Zealand Herald.” So acute has the position become that at least one Auckland firm has issued instructions that no demonstration sets are to be made available on Mondays, except to genuine “ prospects.” Wrestling matches are broadcast on Monday nights. Parasite or Pest? Application was made by the Pukekohe Technical High School to the Papakura Town Board for a donation of £5 towards the construction of a specially-built glasshouse for the breeding of parasites of the white butterfly. The board was informed that three senior students had spent their vacation getting instruction at the Government plant research station, Palmerston North, and to get the full benefit of the instruction received, the glasshouse was necessary. Several members of the Papakura Town Board are farmers, and instantly there were cries of “No!” Mr D. Weir added: “ What are the parasites going to do when they have eaten up all the white butterflies? They will then become a greater pest.” It was decided to refuse the request.
