Preferential Voting.
To Be Discussed During Session.
the Prime Minister (Mr **■ Forbes) has stated that the Government has given no consideration to the question of amending the electoral laws during the coming session of Parliament to provide for a system of preferential voting, it is practically certain that the House of Representatives will be asked to discuss the matter, states the “ Post.” It is believed that two private Bills providing for preferential voting at the next general election will be introduced early in the session, but how far they will be allowed to proceed will depend on the attitude of the Government
One of the Bills will be introduced by a Coalition member, and the other, it is understood, will be sponsored on behalf of the New Zealand Legion, which has already circulated a draft of the Bill amongst members of Parliament.
