SUMMONS SERVED.
Bishop Proceeds Against Rev G. G. Bell. (Special to the “Star.”! AUCKLAND, June 13. The Rev G. G. Bell, formerly vicar of Cambridge, was served with a summons to-day to attend the Magistrate’s court at Cambridge on July 12 to answer a claim made for possession of certain keys, sacred vessels and books held by him by virtue of his claim still to be vicar of Cambridge. The plaintiffs in the action are given as Cecil Arthur Cherrington, of Hamilton, Bishop of Waikato, Charles William Boyce, of Cambridge, and Horace Albert Watkins, of Cambridge, as churchwardens of the parish of Cambridge. In the statement of claim, the Bishop is further described as “ Minister in charge of the said parish of Cambridge.”
Mr Bell stated that not only the claim on the properties mentioned in the summons, but also the right of the plaintiff's to act as such depended entirely on the correctness of his (Mr Bell’s) claim to be vicar of Cambridge. Mr Bell said advice he had received indicated that it was still doubtful whether the civil courts would accept jurisdiction in the matter,
