ARCHBISHOP’S HOPE.
Looks to Pope for Appeal to All Christians.
United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.
LONDON, June 13 In order to bring the Christian spirit from the region of the commonplace into the region of effective power the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Cosmo Gordon Lang, told a meeting at the Mansion House that he was sure if the Pope spoke with his unique influence and authority, not only Roman Catholics but the whole world would listen to an appeal for the co-operation of all Christian churches in promoting the spirit of Christianity. The Archbishop denounced the peril of selfish nationalism* in the European situation, which was causing the gravest anxiety. Only Christianity, he declared, could overcome the growing spirit of nationalism and save Europe from calamity.
