CITY THEATRES PRAISED.
The cosiness and general appearance of Christchurch theatres evoked favourable comment by Mr Arthur W. Kelly, a vice-president of United Artists, of America, who paid a “flying” visit to the citv yesterday. Mr Kelly made particular reference to the new Tivoli Theatre and the Theatre Royal. “ I think that the Tivoli is very pleasing to the eye, and, in my opinion, the modernistic style adopted in the decoration and furnishing of this house should make a fine setting for the dresses of the ladies,” said Mr Kelly. It was good management to move with the times, he added. In his opinion Christchurch had theatres that compare more than favourably with the new Liberty Theatre recently opened in Sydney.
