Mr J. Brennan (Wellington) is a guess at Warner’s Hotel. Mr W. Bromley, a member of the Unemployment Board, is staying at Warner’s Hotel. Messrs A. Turpin (Wellington) and J. Wear (Dunedin) are staying at the Royal Hotel. * Sir R. Heaton Rhodes has been reelected patron of the Red Poll Breeders’ Association, and Mr J. W. Harding (Waipukurau) re-elected president. Guests at the United Service Hotel include Messrs H. Morpeth (Auckland), D. H. Scott, H. G. Miller, J. Walmslcy, F. H. Swan, and W. H. Nankervis (Wei lington). Mr H. Holland, M.P., was re-elected chairman of the Canterbury' Patriotic Fund Executive Committee at its annual meeting yesterday. He has held the office for the past nineteen years. 'He was the first chairman of the committee. Guests registered at the New City Hotel include: Messrs E. K. Barnett, B. E. Webster and J. Donnelly (Auckland), J. H. Forde (Wellington), J. D. Nelson, F. Mathieson (Dunedin) and R. L. Caldwell (Queenstown). The resignation of Inspector W. A. Boaz, after eight years’ service, was received at a meeting of the Waimairi County Council last night. He has been appointed a Main Highways Board traffic inspector. Councillors congratulated Inspector Boaz on his appointment. Mr D. D. Bailey, who for the past eight years has been chief auctioneer for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., in Christchurch, has resigned his position and has been appointed manager for Canterbury for the Dominion Life Assurance Company. Dr F. W. Norwood, minister of the City Temple, London, who is on a world tour, arrived in Christchurch today and is staying with the Rev DGardner Miller. Dr Norwood has already visited Africa, India, China, Japan and Australia. He goes to Dunedin to-morrow and after visiting Auckland will leave for the United States next Wednesday'. Mr T. M. Hinkley, who has been appointed manager of the Sydney agency of the United Press Association, was the guest of the head office staff and friends at a function at Wellington yesterday afternoon. Mr A. B. Lane, manager of the association, presided. Among those present were: Mr Louis; Blundell (representing the board), Mr W- H. A tack, former manager, and Mr Lindsay Buick. The presentation took the form of a pencil and fountain pen set suitably' inscribed. Mr Hinkley was heartily congratulated on his appoint merit to a responsible and important position, and all the speakers expressed confidence that he would fill it with distinction. Last night Mr Hinkle v was the recipient of presentations from fellow members of the New Zealand Rowing Council and also from the Star Boating Club, of which he is captain Mr Hinkley will leave for Sydney by' the Monowai to-morrow.
