RAID FOR LICENSES.
Many Motorists Caught by Inspectors.
City Council traffic inspectors threw a net round Christchurch this morning, catching many motorists who did not have drivers’ licenses in their possession. They will have to produce their licenses within a day or two or make an appearance in Court. Fourteen inspectors, the entire staff of the Traffic Department, took part in the raid. All the main roads into the city were covered, and inspectors were sent into adjacent counties and boroughs for a more complete round-up. One inspector was stationed near Amberley. “A surprisingly large number of the motorists stopped were unable to produce their licenses,” said the chief traffic inspector (Mr IT. Mackintosh). “Will the raid, go on all day?” he was asked. “ That’s not for publication,” replied Mr Macintosh, with a smile.
