Rumours of Political Sensations. MR FORBES AMUSED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 12. Rumours current in Auckland to-day as to the sudden development of the political situation were scoffed at by Mr Forbes when interviewed. Mr Forbes was informed that it was reported: (1) That the Prime Minister intended to retire from politics. (2) That Mr Coates was to go to London as High Commissioner. (3) That the Hon R. Masters was to assume the leadership of the Government. (4) That there would be a general election this year. As the points were enumerated, the smile on the Prime Minister’s face grew broader. At last he laughed outright, and declared, “ There is nothing in them whatever.” Mr Forbes said that he was at a complete loss to understand how such a rumour could originate in the absence of any suggestion or evidence which could support it. Indications are that the political and personal relations of members of the Coalition are as smooth as they have been at any time,” he declared.
