POULTRY FLOCKS.
Registrations Coming to Hand Slowly.
Registrations of flocks under the Poultry Runs Registration Act, 1933, are being received gradually by the postal authorities in the Christchurch district, but it is expected that there will be a rush to register towards the end of the month, as registrations are required to be made within one month of June 1. Up to June 7 26 registrations had been made at the Christchurch Post Office, and 97 at offices in the Christchurch district. Registrations under the Act represent a new form of taxation for a large section of the community. Before the end of the present month those who keep poultry and sell eggs will have to count their flocks and make full returns to the Government. Where the number of poultry kept does not exceed 100 a fee of 2s 6d is payable, and where the number exceeds 100 the fee is 2s 6d, with an additional 2s 6d for every additional 100 or part of 100 head. The money raised from registration fees will be used to enable the New Zealand Poultry Board to organise the industry.
