FARMER SHOT DEAD.
Murdered as He Sat at Fireside.
United Press Assr..—By Electric Telegraph—Cop/righC SYDNEY. June 11
Detectives here are engaged on a difficult case of the murder of John Ryan, aged* seventy-nine, a retired farmer, who was found shot at Barry, in the Blayney district. Ryan was found dead in a sitting posture in an armchair in an isolated cottage, where he lived by himself, on his son’s property.
Detectives have ascertained that Ryan, formerly a wealthy man, sold a xarge portion of his property to his two sons at a nominal figure, but the residue of the property disappeared by some unaccountable means. This aspect is now engaging attention and may provide a .motive for the crime.
The bullet wound in Ryan’s head disclosed a shot at fairly close range, possibly while he was asleep in front of the fire.
