TRAMWAY STAFFING.
Amended Roster of Work in Operation.
The seniority list of the Christ: church Tramways traffic staff has been amended in accordance with the recent decision of the Tramway Appeal Board, and the new roster of work for the men began to operate yesterday. Recent successful appellants have been placed on the second holiday and spare list, and / a number of men who were involved in the strike have dropped back in seniority to allow this alteration to be made.
It is thought probable that further appeals will arise in the near future, but in the meantime possible appellants are being held back by the management insisting that the proper procedure for the lodging of appeals should be followed. According to a recent notice posted up by the traffic manager, Mr W. Dick, any employee who disputes the seniority list or the fortnightly roster must: (1) First appeal to the traffic manager; (2) then appeal to the general manager if the traffic manager’s ruling is not accepted: and (3) if the general manager’s ruling is not accepted employees may then apply to the Tramway Appeal Board.
It was explained this morning that men have recently been going direct with their appeals to the Appeal Board, whereas the procedure laid down in the rule book is that set out by Mr Dick.
