Made Much Of.
“ The manner in which Miss Jean Batten was lionised by the Sydney public was a revelation to me,” declares an Aucklander recently returned from a trip to the New South Wales capital. “ I was there when she arrived at the end of her flight from London,” he said, “ and was surprised at the welcome accorded her. Every section of the community forgot about everything else in the rush to join in a united paean of praise to the New Zealand girl flyer. From remarks heard on every side, I gathered that another aviatrix who flew from England to Australia had not been entirely popular with Australians, and this added to the fervour of Miss Batten’s welcome. There could be no doubt about the genuine joy at the latter’s success, for even the deeds of the Australian cricketers in England were pushed right out of the picture for two or three days by Australia's tribute to Jean Batten.”
