MUSICAL SOCIETY.

The committee of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society met on Saturday evening, Mr J. M. Heath presiding The chairman .welcomed Mr J. M Scott, who had been appointed to till a vacancy on the committee, Mr Dixon taking thfe opportunity of expressing his thanks for Mr Scott’s work in preparing the orchestral parts of "Land oi Hope and Glory” at the last concert. Correspondence with Allan and Co., Melbourne, with reference to hiring the orchestral parts of "Cavalleria RusHcana,” was read. Further communication was awaited. The Competitions Society had been written to informing it of the decision to grant a scholarship tenable for one year, open to mem bers of the chorus. The secretary of the Competitions Society replied, stating that it would have much pleasure in providing for the scholarship in the next syllabus. One of the original conditions was that applicants should he members of the society for one year. The date for new members to join was accordingly extended until July 1. up to which date intending members may apply for admission to the chorus. Soloists for the second concert were considered, items at which would consist of “Cavalleria Rusticana” an! choruses from “Faust” and “Tannhauser.” Mr Dixon stated that he had interviewed Mr Larsen with reference to giving a performance of “Elijah” with Horace Stevens.
