WITTY IRISH COMEDY.
Civic Shows “ General John
Regan.”
The uproariously funny Irish comedy, “ General John Regan,” now showing at the Civic, is sending patrons home in a very happy mood. The brilliant dialogue is clean, and the comedy is splendidly played by the very popular Henry Edwards, who is known the world over as “ The Flag Lieutenant ” hero, supported by Chrissie White. Excellent supports include a Pathe News Reel, “Snowdonia’’ (a Welsh scenic) and a Lion musical novelty Box plans are at the theatre, where seats may be reserved at no extra cost. “ The Wandering Jew.” On Saturday next, at the Civic Theatre, Christchurch, theatre-goers will have the opportunity of witnessing what is claimed to be the most perfect picture ever presented on the screen, Twickenham’s great production, “ The Wandering Jew : ” Produced with a cast of thousands, the picture representation of this famous legend gives further lustre to the amazing work from the pen of E. Temple Thurston. Conrad Veidt, classed as being one of the world’s greatest stars, is seen in the title role, and his masterly portrayal of the Jew who defied the Messiah is undoubtedly the finest and most impressive he has yet given. A special musical score was composed for this film by Dr Hugo Riesenfeld, who wrote the music for “ Ben Hur ” and “ King of Kings.” Wherever screened “ The Wandering Jew ” has attracted people who have never before been to a talking film, so universal is it in its appeal. Box plans for this attraction open a‘ the Civic to-morrow at 10 a.m.
