Sumner, who are at present leading with United, had a lucky win against Cashmere. At one stage of the match Cashmere were three points in the lead, but the men who were expected to hold their opponents failed badly. C. Peagram and C. Hart scored the only possibles and were mainlv responsible for Sumners win. H. Haworth. L. Carlyle and R. Neill, with 69 each, were top-scorers for Sydenham regained some of their lost prestige by defeating a strong Christchurch Working Men’s Club team. They were expected to suffer a heavy defeat, but rose to the occasion an ?, on 552 the top score in last weeks senior matches. D. M’Donald and H ’ Vl n arl w’ secured excellent possibles, while W. R. Barrett, A. Barker, W. Tritt and C. Jessop each had 69. K. Smith (*0) and <3. Crimp (70) were easily the best in the Club’s total of 549. United like Sumner, were also much below form. It was fortunate for them that they met a weaker team than was the caste in their- opening match. R. Hay and C. Thom, who scored possibles, evidently did a great deal towards pulling the match out ot the fire. V. Tims (70) returned the best card for New Brighton, C. Priest, D. Bright and F. Whitely being next with useful score.s of 69. Ford Motors are starting to show some of the form which won them the junior grade comptetition last year. Although they defeated Returned Soldiers by two points last week, they will have to show larger totals if they hope to hold some of the more experienced teams. A. J. Brunning, J. Haworth, A. Purves and A. Hughes shot consistent 1 v for 69 each. E. Peach and C. Farley scored possibles for R.S.A. Christchurch, who are shooting consistently, defeated Lyttelton by ten points. They had no luck in their opening matches and deserve a much higher place than they now cccupv. .1. Chapman, who registered his third possible for Christchurch, is shooting wtell He is one of the oldest miniature rifle shots in Christchurch and is one of the leaders in the Pimm senior aggregate cup. D. Burgess also secured a possible for Christchurch. The two outstanding scores in Lytteltons small total of 541 were possibles by H. M’Donald and R. Sowden. ' Junior notes. Contrary to expectations. Cashmere had an easy win over Marist. Old Boys, who madte an indifferent start. L. Hulbert (Cashmere) secured the only possible of the match. Railway showed slight improvement and had no trouble in defeating a weak Svdenham team. K. M’Vinnie and K. Fanning, with 69 each, were top-scorers for Railway. E. Halmshaw (69) was best for Sydenham. The best match in this series was that between Christchurch (549) and Heathcote (548). Christchurch made a much bettter showing than they did against Cashmere the previous week.

G. Terrell 70, P. Sandford 70 and C. Wear 69 were mainly responsible for the win. Heathcote shot consistently and were unlucky in not scoring a possible. Five men, C. Deavoll, A. Nicholl. R. Miller. G. La Groase and J. Evans, just failed by one point each. •'» ♦♦ ♦*« President’s Cup. New Brighton ladies crashted badly when they met the new club, Dominion Motors, who registered their first win of the season. New Brighton put on. one of their lowest totals for several seasons and were defeated by 531 points to 527. Cashmere scored their best total to date when they defeated Sydenham by 541 points to 532. G. Logan, R. Miller and L. Bramley, with 69 each, were topscorers for Cashmere, and R. Morris put on 69 for Sydenham. Lyttelton, who are the only undefeated team in this grade, beat Railway by 541 points to 537. They have a good chance of securing the honours this season. R. St John and J. Souter both scored good possibles. Ward’s Ladies (537) were narrowly defeated by Christchurch Working Men’s Club (539). The winners’ display was very poor after their brilliant total of 54 9 in a previous match. Marist Old Boys easily accounted for Returned Soldiers. Possibles - were scored for Marist by H. O’Connell, and for Returned Soldiers by F. Sharman. Sharman was a member of the Crown Brewery senior team several years ago. 28 28 K This Week’s Matches. President’s—Wards Ladies v. Cashmere: New Brighton Ladles v. Marist Old Boys; Celtic Ladies v. Returned Soldiers; Sydenham v. Christchurch W.M. Club: Lyttelton v. Christchurch; Railway v. Dominion Motors. a Jottings. The following were the best scores at Ward's Ladies' practise:—Mrs A. B. L. Smith 70, Mrs Harper 68, Miss Mander 69. Mrs R. Smith 67, Mrs Erikson 66. Mrs Hobbs 66. Miss Mander gained a point for the senior button and Mrs Hayman and Miss Johnson a point each for the junior button. :: The Cashmere Club fired its eighth hotty competition last evening.
