“A MERE TORY.”
Viscount Snowden Attacks Mr MacDonald.
A NATIONAL CRISIS
United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, June 11. Viscount Snowden, the former Parliamentary Labour leader, in an article in the “Daily Mail,” announced that he was returning to politics, “ serving independent causes in which he believes.” Viscount Snowden asserts that Mr Ramsay MacDonald has become a mere Tory instrument. The national situation, said Viscount Snowden, was never more critical or more menacing, and tlie call for action was never more imperative. Vast numbers were losing their faith in Parliament. “The National Government’s sole concern is to remain in office,” he declared. “It is obsessed with conceit and the belief in its own indispensabilitv, while tens of thousands of unemployed have for years sunk into a state of helplessness, despair and appalling physical deterioration. These derelict areas are the breeding grounds for Communism and revolutionary activities. “The restlessness of to-day is widespread and includes also the middle salary-earning classes. “Mr MacDonald’s vanity, weakness and incoherence will be Britain’s undoing if he remains in office."
