OBITUARY.

Joseph Stephenson Temple.

The death occurred yesterday of Mr Joseph Stephenson Temple, aged fiftythree years, at his residence, 284, Bealey Avenue. Mr Temple was well known to a large circle of friends, for he was a member of many sporting and musical institutions.

He was born in Oamaru in 1881, the son of Mr and Mrs M. S. Temple. At an early age he came to Christchurch, and for the past twenty-three years had been connected with the Enterprise Boot Manufacturing Company. Mr Temple was one of the oldest members of the Avonside Lawn Tennis Club, and at the time of his death was a vice-president of the club. He was a keen footballer, and for many years was a member of the Christchurch Club. He was also a member of the Lacrosse and Baseball Clubs. He took a keen interest in music, and was a member of the Musical Union and the Glee and Madrigal Society. lie is survived by his widow. Old Dunedin Identitie*. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN. June 11. Two very old identities of Otago died in Dunedin to-day in the persons of Thomas Moodie and Frederick Bastings. Mr Moodie was in his ninety-eighth year and several years ago was closely connected with, the commercial life of the city, having been employed by Dalgety and Co. He was also a director of the Perpetual Trustees Estate and Agency Company. He hj»d been living in retirement at Portobello for several years. He was a member of the Dunedin Bowling Club and was president of the club about fifty-three years ago. He was probably the oldest bowler in the Dominion. Mr Bastings, who was in his ninetysecond year, was also a member of the , Dunedin Bowling Club and, together with Mr Moodie, was a regular attender at the Dunedin green at the annual function in honour of elderly bowlers. It is worthy of note that the founder of Elderly Bowlers’ Day (Mr H. F. M Mercer) passed away a few months ago. Mr Bastings was for many years closely identified with the Tokomairiro district, being “mine host” at the White Horse Hotel at Milton.
