WOOLS TON RATEPAYERS.
A meeting of the Woolston Ratepayers* Association was held last evening. Mr B. T. Turner presided over a good attendance.
, A letter was received from the Christchurch City Council advising that the request made by the association to have the triangular plot at the junction of Princess Street and Victoria Terrace cultivated and sown down in grass, would be complied with. The Christchurch Drainage Board wiote advising that in view of the fact that a definite undertaking had been given that extensive alterations to the treatment plant would be put in hand imediately, the board had decided to defer any action against Davis Gelatine (N.Z.), Ltd.
The secretary gave a report on his Interview with the Mayor regarding the nuisances created in the district. In view of the slowness of the council to
act it was decided to send a deputation to the next meeting of the council. The president (Mr B. T. Turner) and the secretary (Mr E. L. Hills) were elected speakers.
It was decided to write to the Citv Council asking if Broad Street could be paved and channelled.
It was decided to request the council of the United Burgesses’ Association to allow’ the Woolston Ratepayers’ Association to affili;»te with it and to accept a delegate from it.
A number of complaints were received regarding the smoke nuisance, it being agreed that this nuisance is worse than ever before. It was decided to write to the Sunlight league complimenting it on the stand it was taking in the direction of the abatement of smoke nuisances.
