Sapphire Brings Chain of 111-luck. STRANGE STORY FROM INDIA. United Press Assn. —By Electric Te 1 egra p h—Co r> y r i gh t. (Received May 21, 10.25 a.m.) CALCUTTA, May 20. A chain of mishaps among well-to-do Hindu residents of Naghpur is ascribed to the evil influence of a beautiful sapphire. The sapphire was given to a Naghpur merchant, who, within three days, lost business orders worth several thousand rupees and was involved in a car accident. He gave the stone to a lawyer, who, within twelve hours was knocked down by a car. The sapphire was then given to another lawyer, whose wife died suddenly. Then the sapphire was left in the custody of a cook, who was severely burned when his kitchen caught fire. Two hours after it was again given away, and the recipient was thrown from a motor-cycle while taking it home. The sapphire is now in the possession of a Parsee woman, and it is believed that its evil influence has been broken now that it is no longer in the hands of a Hindu.
