Dear Sir,—During the past week I have had my attention drawn to the constant murmurings of children on their way home from school against the removal of the artesian well pipe opposite Winter’s Road, past Papanui If there is any definite reason for the removal of this valuable and refreshing drinking place other than Governmental need of piping. I should be grateful to learn same.— l am, etc., REPLACE- AM THIRSTY. The clerk of the Waimairi County Council (Mr G. S. Cowper) states that the overflow artesian well is being replaced by a proper drinking fountain, and the work is now in progress. The council is improving the drinking facilities at a cost of from £6 to £7.—Ed., “ Star.”
