NEW YORK, April 16 A message from Oklahoma City states that, in what is believed to be an unprecedented action for a State Governor to take, Mr William (“Alfalfa Bill ”) Murry sent National Guard troops into eleven counties to prevent by force, if necessary, the sale of homes for unpaid taxes. He declared: “ The protection of the homes of the people in stressful times like these is a vital policy transcending any temporary loss of taxes.” All county treasurers, when threatened with military arrest, cancelled the advertised sales.
