TRADE WITH N.Z.

Federal Government ’ Shows Enterprise. ANOTHER APPOINTMENT. (Special to the “ Star.”) SYDNEY, April 10 Though the terms of the commercial agreement between Australia and New Zealand are still open to discussion and amendment,- there can be no doubt about Australia's desire to improve her trade relations with the Dominion. A short time back Mr R. H. Nesbitt, of Sydney, was appointed Australian Trade Commissioner in New Zealand. The Federal Government has now decided that the importance of the commissioner’s office and duties justifies the appointment of an assistant. Applications from officers of the Federal Public Service are now formally invited for this position. The appointment is to be for three years, and the officer selected will be stationed in Wellington with Mr Nesbitt. The salary is at the rate of £024 a year, with £156 a year extra for a married man, and additional allowance for children. The position is therefore well worth holding, and no doubt it will be the object of keen competition. But from the New Zealand standpoint it is noteworthy principally because it marks the evident determination of the Federal Government to spare no pains in strengthening the Commonwealth’s commercial conections with the Dominion.
