GLUE FACTORY WORKERS.

Complete Settlement of Dispute. The wages of gelatine and gli?e factory workers were discussed in the Conciliation Council yesterday. A complete agreement was reached. The parties in the dispute were Davis Gelatine (N.Z.), Ltd., Christchurch, and others; and the Canterbury Freezing Works and Related Trades Industrial Union of Workers. The assessors were:—Employers: Miss O. Smith, Messrs W. G„ Arneman and D. I. Macdonald; employees: Messrs D. Brown, P. Brown, N. P. Johnson and H. C. Revell. The Conciliation Commissioner, Mr S. Ritchie, presided. At the afternoon session, a complete agreement was arranged. The following rates of pay per hour were provided for:—Filtermen, Is lOd; greasepress hands. Is 9d; other shift-workers. Is B£d; other workers, Is Bd. Workers engaged in handling pans while they are hot will receive 6d per hour in addition. Youths’ wages will be paid according to age and experience, ranging from 12s ;6d a week to 47s 6d in the sixth year. Arrangements providing for the employment of females, under the Factories Act, were made. For work done on Good Fridays, Christmas Day and on Sundays double time would be paid, and on other holidays pay and a half. Shift-workers will receive not less than 2s 8d an hour for work on the specified holidays, and 2s 2d on other holidays. The general provisions agreed upon were those of the last award. A recommendation is to be made to the court to fix the under-rate workers’ clause. The award will come into force on April 26, and continue in force for one year.
