FIRE AT KOWAI BUSH.

A five-roomed cottage at Kowai Bush, owned by Mr J. Gold and occupied by Mrs A. Mead, together with its contents, was destroyed by fire on Saturday evening. A strong nor’-west wind was blowing at the time, and the occupants had barely time to escape. Both Mrs Mead and Mr Gold are heavy losers, the insurance in both cases not nearly covering the value. Fortunately, owing to the assistance of neighbours, and the fact that the wind was blowing from the nor'-west, the garage was , saved.
