DRAINAGE BOARD.

Reconstruction of Ferry Road Sewer. The Christchurch Drainage Board met last evening, Mr H. G. Livingstone presiding. The engineer (Mr J. Cullens), reporting on the Ferry Road stormwater sewer on Fitzgerald Avenue, to the west side of the premises of New Zealand Breweries, Ltd., said that in connection with the City Council’s present work of reconstructing this 'road, an inspection of the sewers and drains had been made. An inspection made at the portions of sewer exposed showed that pipes were not closely butted and not jointed. In view of the fact that a concrete roadway would be put down, it was advisable that the work of re-conditioning this sewer shou’d be put in hand at once. The length in need of repairs was seven chains. rp be 0.-t n '!ts adonted. It was decided to hold a meeting of the board in committee on May 1 to consider the estimates. Shirley Road Brain. Mr Walter asked what was the position regarding a proposed drain on the north side of Shirley Road. The secretary (Mr C. F. Champion 1 said that there had been difficulty over an easement, but now that this had been signed, the work would proceed as soon as the board* received the deed. On the motion of Mr Hill, it was decided that the engineer should prepare a report on the drain between Tilford and Smith Streets, at the hack of Monica Park, with a view to the board taking The Finance r- umittee reported that it had considered disposing of the credit balance of 112.000 in the No. 9 (house connection allowances! loan account, and had decided to pa v •be amount over to the Sinking Fund Commissioners for investment.
