Gatherings Held in Town and Country. DANCE AT PREBBLETON. Members of the Women’s Institute at Prebbleton arranged a dance which was held in the Public Hall on Saturday evening. Music was supplied by Kinsman’s dance band. Miss Kathleen Tod and Mr L. Pickering were the winners of a Monte Carlo one-step and a lucky spot dance was won by Mis? Frances Hamilton and Mr L. Gallagher Another noveltv number wa« won by Miss Emmie Gallagher and Mr J. Clifford. In the card room the successful competitors were Mrs L. Harris, Mrs H. Cherry, Mr A. Giles and Mr G. Thompson. An enjoyable evening was held recently at the residence of Mr A. T Stokes to celebrate the coming-of-age of Mr Harold Rewi Stokes. . In the drawing-room, which was gaily decorated with streamers, balloons and coloured lights, games and dancing were enjoyed During the evening a speciality tap-dance was performed by Mr IIRvder and moving pictures were shown by Mr F. The Happiness Club held its fortnightly dance in St Michael’s Hall in Durham Street on Saturday night. The hall was gaily decorated with a variety of streamers, the club colours predominating. The stage was decorated with greenery and flowers with a background of blue and gold panels. Monte Carlo fiances were won bv Mrs G. Lagan. Misses N. Hartnett and J. Sheppard and Mr 11. Carter. A pleasant social evening organised by the members of the Lobum Roman Catholic Church, assisted by a large number of friends, was held in the Coronation Hall on Saturday in honour of Miss Elbe Brady, who is to be married shortly. A large number of useful gifts for the bride-elect’s pantry were received During the evening songs were given by Miss Hutchinson and violin solos by Mr T. Joyce. After supper Mrs Montgomery, on behalf of the Basket-ball Club, presented Miss Brady with a picture and spoke of the way in w’hich she carried out her duties as captain. Miss Brady was the guest of honour at a variety afternoon held at the home of Mrs J. R. Wilkinson, Lobum. Community singing, with Miss Nellie Fitzgibbon at the piano, was much enjoyed by the guests and musical items were given by Misses Brady, N. Fitzgibbon, and M. Ilasell. Miss Bradv was the recipient of many useful gifts. Those present, included:—Mesdames J. R. Wilkinson, J. Brady, J. Joyce and M. Fitzgibbon, Misses E. Brady, N. Henry. .T. Montgomery, M. Hiatt, B. Smart, N. Pulley, O. Croft, S. Hiatt, M. Dawson, C. Galletly, M. Hasall and A. Dawson. Birthday Party. A surprise party was held recently at the home of Mr and Mrs W. Lennie, Fitzgerald Avenue, in honour of the coming of age of their niece, Miss Phylis Beechner. The evening was spent in games, dancing and community singing. Items were given by Mesdames JNuttall and R Hurley and Messrs H. Peechner, J. Jackson, and W. Mitchell. Duets were given by Miss Mitchell and Mr W. Mitchell and a yodelling duet was given by Messrs J and W. Jackson. Mr W. Lawford also contributed several items. Mr Warran was pianist. Competitions were won by Miss M. Mitchell, Miss M.
