TROTTING NOTES.

ACCEPTANCES for the Te Aroha Trotting Club’s meeting will close at 5 p.m. to-day. Acceptances for the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting are due on Friday at 5 p.m. * * * * Nominations for the trotting events at the Southland Racing Club’s meeting close at 5 p.m. on Friday. EXCELLENT RECORD. Worthy Light has a fine record in the North Island this season. He began on October 14 by winning the Frankton Handicap at Waikato. On October 23 he was successful in the Campbell Handicap at Auckland, and on Octboer 28 won the Borough Handicap at ITutt Park. At Auckland on December 27 he finished third in the Grandstand Handicap, while on December 30 he was third in the Telegraph Handicap. Later in the day he won the Premier Handicap. At the same course on February 17 he won the Railway Handicap. Then on March 17 he was successful in the Wanganui Handicap, while on April 2 he won the Waimate Plains Handicap at Hawera. His latest win was gained in the Thames Trotting Cup on Saturday. This gives him a record of eight wins and two seconds in his ten starts this season. In stakes, he has earned £955 since he resumed racing on October 14. Worthy Light is trained by F. J. Smith for Messrs C. E. and IT. L. Lovegrove. He is a chestnut colt by Worthy Bond from Illumination. FIVE OX END. Donum, who ran a dead-heat with Smooger for first place in the Kopu Handicap at the Thames meeting on Saturday, joined F. J. Smith’s Takanini stable on the eve of the Wanganui meeting last month. In the few weeks that have elapsed since then he had won four races in succession, prior to Saturday’s dead-heat. DOUBLE-GAITED. Impostor began his career as a pacer, but failed to race up to expecta tions. He was subsequently changed over to the trotting gait, and won at the Methven meeting as a trotter. That was about eighteen months ago. At that time he promised to do well at the trotting gait, out unfortunately for his followers he took a turn for the worse and raced badly. Recently he was put back to the pacing gait, and registered his first win the hopples on when he squeezed home in the Improvers’ Handicap at Ashburton on Saturday. UNLUCKY, Greenmantle was unfortunate at Ashburton on Saturday. He made a break when the barriers were released and wanted to kick before he set to work The incident cost him several lengths and then he was only beaten by a length. Greenmantle has done well; under D. C. Watts, at Oamaru, and it would seem that a win for him is near at hand. ABOUT VOTTyr- TRAVIS. Young Travis dealt his big army of admirers a serious blow when he failed to secure a place in the Harvest Handicap at Ashburton. He made a break at the start, but made up his ground quickly. He took second place at the top of the straight, at which stage he looked a winner, but he collapsed over the last furlong. BILLY SUNDAY. Billy Sunday, who won the first event at the Thames meeting on Saturday, is owned and trained by Mr E. F. C. Hinds and he made the trip north as a mate for Harold Logan. He raced on the West Coast in the summer, but failed to run up to expectations. At Cheviot last month he finished third to Walter Wrack and Kotinga over two miles, and Saturday’s effort was further evidence of improvement. He is an aged gelding by Nelson Bingen, his dam being by Emilius, a staying brother to Emmeline, by Rothschild from Imperialism PROSPECTS ARE GOOD. Recess gained further friends by her fine display in the Harvest Handicap at Ashburton on Saturday. She wa= back in tenth place five furlongs from home, and then came on the scene a furlong from home and won like a mare that will qualify for select com pany next season. M nr >PT rvp CONSISTENCY. First Wrack Js one of the most consistent trotters in commission. She won the Stewards’ Handicap at Ashburton in an attractive manner. In her last seventeen starts she has been unplaced only three times. TROTTING FIXTURE’S. April 21—The Aroha T.C. April 21—Kaikoura T.C. April 26—Marlborough T.C. April 27, 28—Marlborough R.C.
